The images never leave your computer, the browser does the converting, we see nothing
JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, SVG and BMP never leave your computer. HEIC, RAW, PSD and TIFF go through our server, which converts them and keeps nothing
Almost everything happens inside your browser: JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, SVG and BMP are converted by it, on your computer, and those files go nowhere.
Four formats are the exception, and we say so first: HEIC, RAW, PSD and TIFF the browser simply cannot open. If you load one of these, that file is sent to our server, converted and sent back. We want to tell you plainly, because for those four formats the line “your files never leave your computer” does not hold.
What happens to that file: it is never saved, not even for a moment. It never touches the server’s disk, it stays in memory for as long as the conversion takes and disappears when that ends, which is a couple of seconds. There is no folder it ends up in, and that is not a configuration choice: in the program there is no line that writes to a file.
If you would rather nothing left your computer at all, write to us and we will pass you the desktop program: it does the same formats and runs only on yours.
Animated GIFs: only the first frame is taken, the animation is lost along the way.
Converting to JPG turns transparency white, because jpg has never heard of it. If you need to keep it, choose PNG or WEBP.
This page converts what the browser already knows how to open on its own: JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, SVG and BMP. It does the work, on your computer, so it goes exactly as far as the browser goes and not a step further.
HEIC, the iPhone photos: they work if you open this page from an iPhone or from a Mac with Safari, because there it is the system that already knows how to read them. On Windows or on Chrome they don’t, and to make them work anyway we would have to make every visitor download a few megabytes of library, which for a free page doesn’t seem honest to us.
RAW (.cr2 .nef .arw .dng), PSD and TIFF: they can’t be done in the browser, and we’re not going to talk around it.
If HEIC, RAW, PSD or TIFF are exactly what you need, write to us and we will pass you the desktop program that does them all, without going through this page.

Changing the format of three photos takes a minute. But if every week someone takes the suppliers’ photos, renames them, converts them and uploads them to the site or to the business software, that is a process, and it can be automated
